LeeAnn Sutton
LeeAnn Sutton grew up in Western Massachusetts, where she began studying piano at the age of five and viola at the age of 10. The viola soon became her primary focus and will continue to remain so for the unforeseeable future.
Currently, LeeAnn is pursing a Masters degree in viola performance at the University of Colorado, Boulder. At the University, LeeAnn performs with the Symphony Orchestra, the Early Music Ensemble and various other chamber groups.
LeeAnn also teaches with Boulder Suzuki Strings, works with the High Plains Youth Orchestra and maintains a private studio. She freelances throughout the Denver-Boulder area and has served as principal violist with the Colorado Light Opera.
In 2004 LeeAnn received a Bachelors of Music degree from Ithaca College in viola performance and music education. After a brief stint in Washington D.C., as an intern for the National Symphony Orchestra Education Department, LeeAnn returned to “gorges” Ithaca to teach instrumental music for the Ithaca City School District. She also served as a chamber music coach for the New York ASTA String Institute at Ithaca College. While in Upstate New York, LeeAnn also performed with the Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes and the Candlelight String Quartet.
LeeAnn is deeply grateful to all of her teachers, Erika Eckert, Debra Moree, Michelle LaCourse, and Helen Louise Fohrhaltz, and hopes to pass their wisdom (mixed with some of her own!) on to her students. Influenced by studies in yoga and the Alexander Technique, LeeAnn also works to cultivate increased body awareness and healthy practice/performance habits both for herself and her students.
She has attended Brevard Music Festival and the Adriatic Chamber Music Festival in Bonefero, Italy. LeeAnn Sutton has performed in masterclasses with Victoria Chaing, William Prucil and the Diaz Trio.
